A Palmetto State Vacation

A week or two ago, Amanda's family headed on south to Hilton Head, SC for a little rest and relaxation. Usually getting off work during the summer months is incredibly difficult for me, but I had the vacation days and the guys at work were willing to hold down the fort long enough for us both to get away.

Amanda and her family were down at Hilton Head for an entire week, but I only was able to get down there for half the week. I didn't take many pictures, but here are a few from the days I was there.

I would like to say that I hooked up with a big shark or drum while I fished from the shore but the only thing that was lovin' my bait was the many types of seagulls. Fishing from the shore is much different than deep sea fishing - in fact, it resembles tailgating more than fishing. Bring a cooler, a lounge chair and hang out until the rod and reel sing. That's about all. And while I prefer fishing offshore, surf fishing isn't so bad... mainly because Amanda is willing to come along (she doesn't like the idea of going miles & miles offshore until you can't see land). Anyways, here's a picture of me feeding the many types of seagulls - actually only herring gulls and yellow-legged gulls. The laughing gulls and terns that were there were too skittish and would rather "go-long," so I threw them deep Hail-Mary touchdown passes of squid to them.

My favorite night, I believe it was Sunday night, we all went down to Hilton Head's Harbor Town area. We ate dinner at Crazy Crab and walked around the storefronts that rested on and around the marina. Here are a few pictures...
